Author: Timo Airaksinen - Department of Social and Moral Philosophy, Helsinki University - R+D+4i Project Analysis Indicators - Responsible for Values Indicators in Finland

Opinion pieces | The role of values for regional growth

Author: Leo Sleuwaegen - Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School - R+D+4i Project general coordinator in Flanders

The role of values for regional growth should best be seen in combination with the type and the development of institutions of the region. The link between institutions and values runs in both directions. Institutions are largely based on the common values held by people in the region, but reversely changes in the institutions can also alter regional values. The changes occurring in many of the fastest developing regions in Asia are an interesting illustration of this fundamental interaction.
